Blue Angels Cancel Millville, NJ Air Show Appearance After Incident In Va.

MILLVILLE, N.J. (CBS) - A planned Memorial Day weekend performance by the US Navy's "Blue Angels" flight demonstration team in Millville, New Jersey has been cancelled because of safety concerns.

The Blue Angels had been scheduled at the Millville air show celebration on Saturday and Sunday. But Navy lieutenant Katie Kelly says that last weekend, while the "Blues" were performing in Lynchburg, Va., there was an incident which prompted the Navy to take some precautions.

"Jets exited a maneuver that was at a lower-than-normal altitude. The pilots decided to land -- they all landed safely -- and have a safety stand-down," she told KYW Newsradio today. "Basically it's time to have additional training and air show demonstration practice."

Kelly says that although the Blue Angels will not be at the Millville air show this weekend, other civilian and military performance teams will be there, including the US Army "Golden Knights" parachute jumpers.

It's uncertain when the Blue Angels will resume their demonstrations.
