Family Of Juniata Hit-Run Victim Relieved By Suspect Arrest

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) –It took over a year, but Philadelphia police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run accident that killed a woman in the city's Juniata neighborhood.

On May 1st of last year, along the 200 block of West Erie Avenue, Liliana Acevedo was hit by a car just before 11pm.  That car took off, leaving Liliana to die from her injuries.

Family members said they were never going to stop looking for the person responsible, and last night police arrested 39-year-old Sylvia Lugo (top photo) of Marshall Street as a suspect.

Liliana's cousin, Kenny Gomez, says the arrest is a small step towards closure.

"It doesn't bring her back, but it definitely gives us a piece of mind," Gomez says.  "It's not over yet -- we still have to go through a few steps -- but the family feels a little more relieved that this is actually starting now."

Lugo is facing several charges, including vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of the accident, and tampering with evidence.
