Local And National Groups Try To Raise Awareness For Military Mental Health

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Several national and local organizations have joined forces to make the public more aware of mental challenges among the military and look for ways to provide help.

Just in time for Memorial Day, a special website has been set up to make the public more aware of the mental issues some military, former military members and their families face and allows people to send a free e-post card of encouragement to a military member.

"(The idea is) to create awareness of mental wellness and the challenges that veterans face and soldiers face with mental illness and the additional burdens they have being deployed and fighting the wars and then coming back and integrating into society," said Christy Bell, Senior Vice President for Healthcare Management at Horizon Healthcare Services.
