In Philadelphia, Eisenhower Award Presented To The International Crisis Group

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - As countries around the world are in conflict, former Secretary of State Colin Powell is in Philadelphia to attend an event that promotes dialogue and understanding among international leaders.

The Rittenhouse Square Hotel was buzzing Thursday night as more than 150 participants gathered for the Eisenhower Fellowships Annual Meeting. The group presented its prestigious Eisenhower Award to the International Crisis Group, an organization that works to prevent deadly conflict around the world.

"This is a field that historically was left to governments. Now we are out there...not representing any particular national point of view," President and CEO Louise Arbour says opening the dialogue among international leaders is key to ending world conflict. "Peace cannot come from the battlefield. This is the last resort."

General Colin Powell, Louise Arbour and Dr. Jeffrey Koo were the keynote speakers.
