Court Date Postponed For Souderton Man Accused Of Rape And Murder

SOUDERTON, Pa. (CBS) - A court date for the Souderton man accused of raping and murdering 9-year-old Skyler Kauffman last week has been postponed.

James Troutman was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, May 19th but that has been postponed indefinitely.

The 24-year-old man has secured an attorney, Craig Penglase of Bucks County. Meanwhile, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says she will prosecute the case.

Troutman is facing numerous charges including first degree murder, rape and kidnapping.

Prosecutors say he strangled the little girl, after molesting her, in the basement of the Souderton Garden apartments. Police say she died of asphyxiation and blunt force trauma. They say her head hit the ground several times.

Funeral services for the 9-year-old girl were held Monday.
