I-76 Ramp Closure Expected To Cause Traffic Headaches

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - PennDOT plans a temporary closure of a busy ramp along the westbound Schuylkill Expressway at 10 this morning so crews can remove what turns out to be a man-made road hazard.

PennDOT's Charles Metzger says the ramp leading from Interstate 76 westbound to the eastbound Interstate 676, Vine Street Expressway, will be closed for about a three-hour period to handle a hazard discovered last week.

"A truck has spilled concrete onto the ramp and it hardened, so there's a bump there now," Metzger explained.

Metzger says drivers westbound on the Schuylkill Expressway who want to get off at Vine Street going eastbound will now have to go up to the Girard Avenue exit, follow the detour back on the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway and then exit at the eastbound Vine Street Expressway.

Metzger says PennDOT chose to close the ramp after the morning rush-hour, but conceded it's likely to still cause some traffic delays. He advises building in some extra time if you're going to be driving into that area through early afternoon.
