8 Tow Truck Drivers Arrested For Illegally Towing & Scrapping Cars

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Police Department has announced the arrest of eight tow truck drivers for illegally towing vehicles to various scrap and salvage yards in the city.

The Department's Major Crimes Auto Squad conducted a two year investigation throughout the city culminating in the arrests of eight drivers in total.

According to investigators, the drivers would pick up vehicles that were either disabled on the highway, involved in an accident or legally parked and take them to Philadelphia-based scrap and salvage yards to be sold for scrap metal.

All eight males listed below were arrested for Theft-Unlawful Taking and related offenses:

Curtis Herder aka Curtis Gardner, 49 from the 1300 block of Bristol Street
Darrell Larkins, 53 from the 1400 block of North Robinson Street
Emilio Ortiz, 40 from the 600 block of West Cambria Street
Hector Figueroa, 33 from 4700 block of "A" Street
Stephen Schultz, 28 from the 3100 block of Fordham Road
Levare Scott, 22 from the 5900 block of "B" Street
Louis Amaro, 31 from the 4600 block of "G" Street
Karl Hawk, 28 from the 5100 block of West Stiles Street
