Bucks County Native Christina Perri Explodes Onto Music Scene

BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) - A Bucks County native is hitting it big in the music industry.

Mary Perri has not seen much of her daughter Christina since the FOX show, So You Think You Can Dance featured Perri's song Jar of Hearts in one of the performances.

Since then, singer-songwriter Christina Perri has seen her song's popularity rise on the music charts and her mom, who still lives in Bensalem, could not be more proud.

"The latest is the Lollapalooza thing, that's been confirmed. I talked to her manager -- see what I mean? Not her. And the other thing is her CD comes out on May 10th," Mary Perri said.

Before Christina broke into the music business, she worked as a waitress at the Eddington House in Bensalem for owner Gina Gramiak. Two years after leaving Bensalem to pursue her music dreams, she was discovered, which Gramiak calls "epic."

"The night that she played on So You Think You Can Dance, we had it on every TV and we had it turned up and the whole bar was rooting for her," Gramiak said.

Mary Lafferty is the chair of the music department at Perri's former high school.

"I think it's very important that she's a woman and being creative. When we study the whole history of music, there's not that many women until recent years," Lafferty said.

She says everyone at Nazareth Academy is talking about Christina.

"It's been a nice little shot in the arm for our music here at school that somebody has been really successful," Lafferty said.

When asked if there was anything Lafferty wanted to say to Christina, she shared her overwhelming support.

"Well, I'd say a shout out from Nazareth! The girls at Nazareth are behind you 100 percent."
