Procrastinators Hurry To Post Office To File Taxes

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - We got a couple extra days to file this year, but the day many people dread has arrived – today is Tax Day. KYW Newsradio caught up with some last-minute filers mailing-off their forms in University City this morning.

Midnight tonight is the deadline, but don't expect to get that deadline if you need to mail your returns, the post-office at 30th and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia has signs posted (pictured), warning it will close at 9 p.m. sharp tonight.

Kathy Collins ducked in to mail-off her return on her way to work.  She said, she's just a procrastinator and needs the deadline, but now that she's done, "A big relief, spring can come now and I can enjoy it!"

Kirk from Downingtown stopped in this morning to mail his return. He said he has a good reason for waiting until the last minute, "I owe money, so I wanted to pay at the very last minute basically, didn't want to pay the interest."

But others, like Kathy Collins, said, "Because I'm a procrastinator. I need a deadline, or else it wouldn't get done.  Ever."

Some last-minute advice from the IRS: don't try to use a form from a previous year.  If you e-file you have until 11:59 p.m.

And, you can also file for an extension at IRS.gov, that though is an extension to file --  not to pay.  That check needs to be in mail by today.
