More Chances to Compete

You don't have  to be one of the area's elite players to enjoy competitive golf, and there are more opportuinities for you this year.

The Golfweek Amateur Tour is getting started in this area, and will open its schedule later this month.  Joe Logan did a piece on the new tour here at MyPhillyGolf.com.

It's another year for the Golf Channel Am TourDetails and a local schedule are here.

The Philadelphia Publinks Golf Association provides a competitive environment for the area's public course players, as well as an entre into Golf Association of Philadelphia events.   That association's website is here.

The Golfshots Classic Tour is still going strong.  Its website is here.

For many years, private club players in the area have enjoyed the GAP Team Matches, and they're underway again this season... three weekends of competition followed by playoffs and challenges in the various divisions.  The schedule and results can be found here at the GAP website.

And plans are in the works for the first-ever Atlantic City World Amateur Open, patterned after the massive annual World Am get-together in Myrtle Beach.   They're hoping to attract 500 golfers for the inaugural Atlantic City event and grow from there.   It will be held June 5-9, 2011 on these courses:  Blue Heron Pines, the Links at Brigantine Beach, Harbor Pines, Mays Landing, Sand Barrens, Seaview, Shore Gate and Twisted Dune (see photo above).  You can find more information in this piece by the Press of Atlantic City.
