Managing Headaches

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The most common type of headache is a stress headache and guess what? The most common cause is stress. But other causes are skipping meals, irregular sleep habits or certain foods.

One of the first things many people do after suffering a headache is reach for a pain reliever in the medicine cabinet. But there are other simple things you can do. Lie down in a dark and quiet room and try to sleep. Also, try to figure what led to the headache.

If stress is a cause, take some time to examine the stress in your life and see what you can do to control it. And be careful about all of the medication -- people who take pain medication too often can get rebound headaches due to the medicine.
