The Benefit Of Companion Animals For Seniors
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Our companion animals are truly that, our companions. They not only are a part of the family providing unconditional love, loyalty and companionship on a daily basis, but they also provide us with some amazing health benefits too.
Research has been conducted and numerous surveys taken regarding the effects and overall benefits of living with a companion animal. Significant progress has been shown for many people who are living with numerous challenges including post-traumatic stress disorder, learning disabilities (for both adults and children), depression, anxiety, loneliness, etc.
Studies have also shown that seniors benefit greatly from living with a pet. These reports all produced the same positive results including reducing stress, promoting a heart-healthy lifestyle including some exercise, lowering blood pressure, alleviating loneliness, increasing social interaction and providing a better overall quality of life.
This is beneficial not only for seniors but for everyone in all stages of life.
