Chronic Unemployment The Focus Of State of Black America Report

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The National Urban League says chronic unemployment is the chief focus in its 2011 State of Black America report.  KYW Newsradio spoke to Philadelphia's Urban League president about the report.

Patricia Coulter, CEO of the Urban League of Philadelphia, is in Washington with more than 60 other Urban League directors from around the country for the release of the League's annual State of Black America report - which focuses on chronic unemployment as a major issue in minority communities.

The report lists several recommendations, Coulter said, "Summer youth job programs is one of our recommendations.  And the National Urban league is recommending the enactment of an urban jobs act, which would actually restore some of the summer youth job programs that we have all known in the past."

Coulter says in Philadelphia, the League will be working with small businesses to improve their bottom lines so they can hire more people.
