Historic Churchville Inn Ruined In Blaze

SOUTHAMPTON, Pa. (CBS) - The historic Churchville Inn was destroyed when a fire broke out Sunday morning.

Southampton Fire Chief Glen McKenney says a passerby called in the alarm.

"We were dispatched at 7:11 this morning, with the report of a roof fire, and when we arrived on location, the second floor and the attic were well involved."

Joanne Mann, who lives across the street from the Bucks County landmark, says she and her husband awoke to the smell of smoke.

"The flames were leaping at least 30 feet into the air."

Witnesses say David Wallace, one of the owners, was injured when he jumped out a window to escape the flames. He's reportedly hospitalized in fair condition.

The fire's cause is unknown, but Chief McKenney says investigators believe it may have started in the attic.
