Philadelphia Top Cop Ramsey May Go To Chicago

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There is growing speculation that Philadelphia's top cop may take a similar job in Chicago.

Mayor Michael Nutter says there's been no decision and he hopes Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey stays in Philadelphia.

Nutter confirms that Commissioner Ramsey has been in touch with Chicago mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel about becoming police chief in the Windy City.

Ramsey, 60, is from Chicago and began his law enforcement career there.

But Nutter says Ramsey has not yet made up his mind.

"He has nowhere near made any kind of decision," Nutter told KYW Newsradio today. "But he has already said publicly that when faced with that kind of circumstance, it's something you have to think about."

Nutter hired Ramsey at the start of this first term after a national search, and of course is hoping Ramsey decides to stay.

"I want Police Commissioner Ramsey here in Philadelphia," Nutter says.

Reported by Mike Dunn, KYW Newsradio 1060.
