Police: Murder-Suicide In Gloucester County

MANTUA TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) - Police in Gloucester County are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened in the quiet Mantua Township neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to the Villages at Berkley condominium complex on Berkley Road at about 4 p.m.

When police arrived, they found the body of 52-year-old Stephen Newcomb at the foot of a stairway to his upper-level condominium.

According to investigators, Michael Targett, 45, fatally shot Newcomb before taking his own life. Targett died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators say Targett's estranged wife was living with Newcomb, but she was not home at the time of the incident.

An investigation remains underway by the Mantua Township Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.
