Dozens Of High School Students Take Part in Philadelphia's "PAL Day"

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - City officials get younger every minute, especially on "PAL Day" at City Hall.

Applause followed the group swearing-in of 26 of the best youth the Police Athletic League program has to offer.  Each young man and woman shadows a top city official for a day, and Archbishop Ryan senior Joseph Bozzelli got what was arguably the top job -- honorary mayor.

He even got to make a speech.

"PAL's provided me with a lot of opportunities," Bozzelli told his press conference attendees.  "I can't even imagine what I'd do without PAL today."

The real hizzoner, Mayor Michael Nutter, says PAL gets similar praise quite often.

"To the 26 PAL students, we want to applaud you for your outstanding efforts in both academics and community service.  That's what it takes these days, and it's going to help you a great deal on those college applications," Nutter told the students.

Bozzelli, however, plans to join the US Air Force.
