Abington Art Center Hosts 24th Annual Touch The Future Exhibit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An exhibit at the Abington Art Center features the work of young artists from Bucks and Montgomery counties.

This is the 24th annual Touch the Future Art exhibit, which began as a memorial to NASA's teacher in space Christa McAuliffe, whose motto was "I touch the future...I teach."

It gives high school artists from Bucks and Montgomery counties the chance to participate in a professionally juried show. 18-year-old Galit Brodie (photo right) of Council Rock South High School won a second place best of show award for a beautifully bound book of computer images and text.

"It's a story about something that happened on my birthday where there was a misunderstanding and it was a really funny, ironic story."

Eleventh grader Katy Dillion (photo left) of Pennsbury High school had the appropriate reaction to the work. She says the beautiful ceramic bust is a self portrait that also reflects her feelings. "(It's about) the abstraction of feelings, but on the outside."

Senior Courtney Kalinowski (photo top) also of Pennsbury won first place if the best of show for her startling three-dimensional interpretation of a David Garibaldi painting - Window of Inspiration.

"It's cool. It's a little weird but very surprising especially when I see everything else."

There are over 300 pieces of art in the show that will be at the Abington Art Center through February 27th.
