Delco Judge Overrules Parents, OKs Treatment For Injured Wrestler

MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) - A Delaware County judge has ruled that a high school wrestler must be treated by doctors, rather than his mother, for a spinal injury suffered in practice.

The Chichester High School student has been in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital since he was injured last week. Doctors say he needs surgery to avoid being paralyzed.

But his family has been fighting for the right to treat him at home with herbal remedies (see previous story).

The judge sided with Delaware County authorities who say it is in the teenager's best interest to grant Jefferson doctors the authority to perform surgery.

The family's attorney says they will appeal the ruling.
