The Risk Of Foods With High Glycemic Index

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It is another one of those annoying medical terms -- the glycemic index. It is a big word but all it really describes is a scale which measures the effect of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels, and a growing number of studies are confirming what we already know. These carbs can increase the risk of people developing type two, or adult onset, diabetes.

White bread, noodles, and white rice are three examples of foods with a high glycemic index, but there are other foods that can lower the risk of type two diabetes. A diet high in cereal fiber can help, as can substituting whole wheat bread for white bread. It is becoming increasingly clear that it's important to reduce the high sugar options and use common sense.
