Corbett Names New AG At First Press Conference

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - Governor Tom Corbett held his first news conference since taking office – to announce his choice to replace him as attorney general.

Governor Corbett has nominated Linda Kelly to serve the remainder of his term as attorney general. Kelly has been a prosecutor for more than 35 years, most recently as an assistant US attorney in Pittsburgh and working for Corbett when he was a US attorney.

"I know from my personal experience that throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated good judgment [and] common sense, and has the experience to successfully lead the attorney general's office."

Kelly has served as both a trial prosecutor and has twice been named acting US attorney.

"My experience runs from being someone who is in the trenches to someone who has led the office and hopefully has some appreciation and understanding for most of the things that are in between."

Kelly, who has agreed not to run for the office when it up comes up for election next year, must be confirmed by the Senate.
