College Basketball: Eggleston Helping Turn Around Quakers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The University of Pennsylvania, 9-9, has already won three more games than last season as they ready for tonight's Ivy League showdown with 16-4 Princeton.

One reason for their success is the play of senior forward Jack Eggleston.

Eggleston is the Quakers' second-leading scorer, at 14.3 points per game, but he has been especially effective in the Ancient 8, pouring in a team-high 19.8 points in Penn's four Ivy League contests.

The 6' 8" forward talks about how he's developed during his time as a Quaker.

"I came in as a very emotional player and I'd say I still have some of that in my game. I think a kind of passion and fire is necessary at this level. But I think I've done a better job of being able to keep my emotions in check and channel them into executing and playing well, rather than just playing on raw emotion," he told KYW Newsradio.

Eggleston has been a key player since arriving on campus, starting in 101 of his 105 career games, and he says he is very aware that as a senior he only has a limited amount of time in a Quaker uniform.

"The whole 'last' everything . . . every time I have a new 'last' something it's kind of a little reality check. This is my last go-around, I'm going to be done with this in less than two months. It's motivation I say -- I definitely want to take advantage of all the opportunities that I'm being given and just play as hard as I can and try to do my part to bring this program back to where it's been and where it should be," he said.

Eggleston will play his last game at Princeton tonight as the Quakers and the Tigers match up for the 223rd time in history. Penn leads the series 122-100.

This is a key game for Ancient 8 superiority: the Quakers are 3-1 in the Ivy league, Princeton 4-0.
