Eagles Promote Caldwell, Zordich On Coaching Staff

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles filled their two position holes on the defensive coaching staff, promoting from within to do it.

On Monday the team announced that Mike Caldwell will take over as linebackers coach and Michael Zordich will serve as secondary/safeties coach.

Caldwell spent last season as the Eagles assistant linebackers coach, he first came on staff in 2008 as a defensive quality control coach.  He also had a quick stint with the Eagles in 2007 as an intern coach at training camp.  Caldwell spent 11 seasons in the NFL as a linebacker, playing with the Eagles from 1998-2001.  He replaces Bill Shuey as linebackers coach.  Shuey's contract expired and he was not brought back.

Zordich takes over the secondary from Dick Jauron who left the Eagles to become the Browns defensive coordinator.  Zordich joined the staff an a coaching intern in 2009 and spent last season as a defensive quality control coach.  He also played in Philadelphia, patrolling the secondary as a safety for the Eagles from 1994 to 1998.  Zordich also played for the Jets and Cardinals.

Of course the Eagles defense now led by new coordinator Juan Castillo, he took over for the fired Sean McDermott after years as the Birds offensive line coach.
