Part 5: Musician George "Spanky" McCurdy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - George "Spanky" McCurdy has lived all over Philadelphia and started playing the drums at a young age in church.  By the age of 13, he was known for his unique and innovative style of drumming.

He has played with an impressive roster of artists including Lady Gaga (with whom he recently toured), Tye Tribbett, Diddy, Jilly Scott, Ciara, and Justin Timberlake.

McCurdy says the City of Brotherly Love makes it easy to be creative.

"The vibe is so warm, the vibe is so just, it's straight up, it's one hundred, it's real," he told KYW Newsradio recently.

McCurdy has also created his own clothing line, Star Struck.

"I'm doing a lot of stuff with different artists in fashion, and all kind of stuff, and having a ball," he said.

McCurdy says Philadelphia has a great music history, and that history is being rewritten right now:

"We hold the crown for the whole neo-soul thing. This is like history right now. It's the greatest city in the world."
