Nurse Charged With Stealing $682,000 From Elderly Patient
MEDFORD, N.J. (CBS) -- Police in Medford Township have arrested a registered nurse on charges of theft by deception following a year long investigation.
An investigation of missing money began when family members of an elderly Medford resident discovered money missing from the victim's accounts.
Detectives determined that Mariejo J. Cherestal, a nurse working for the 85-years-old Claude Levesque (right), had stolen about $682,000 over a 1-year period by writing herself fraudulent checks from Leveqsue's accounts.
"She took advantage of me," said Levesque. "She had my pin number, which she says I gave her. I blame myself too."
Cherestal, 45, of Medford was arrested without incident at her home.
Cherestal was committed to the Burlington County Women's Correctional facility after failing to post $100,000.00 bail.
