Montco Commish Expected To Make Announcement

NORRISTOWN, PA (CBS) - KYW Newsradio has learned that Joe Hoeffel, Montgomery County Commissioner, is expected to hold a news conference Monday morning in Norristown to make an announcement that could shake up the Democratic Party.

Sources within the Democratic Party in Montgomery County tell KYW Newsradio that Hoeffel will likely make an announcement that clears up his future political plans at the county level.

The county commissioners are up for election this year and the Democrats believe they have a strong chance to grab hold of the majority of the board. Hoeffel is the board's vice chairman, even though he's the lone Democrat, after forging a power-sharing agreement with Republican Jim Matthews when they were elected along with Bruce Castor nearly four years ago.

There has been a lot of speculation in recent weeks about who the Democrats would endorse this time around. That hazy picture could get much clearer after Monday morning's announcement.
