SEPTA Drivers See Improvement In Road Conditions

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - What a difference a day makes. Many side streets are still hard to navigate in the city since last week's snow storm, but things are improving, at least when it comes to mass transit.

Several bus routes were still shut down on Saturday, but SEPTA spokeswoman Sylvana Hoyos says all routes are back in business now.

"Of course, due to street conditions there are still some bus routes that are operating on diversions," Hoyos says. "Some local detours here and there and even some in-service routes may be subject to diversion."

Hoyos adds, everything should be back to normal tomorrow, "For our customers, Monday morning, they'll find that their bus route most likely will be operating. As of right now, it is all operating."

Information on detours can be found at SEPTA.org.

Donna, a SEPTA bus driver says, "Well so far so good.  The smaller streets are still a challenge, but it looks like they are trying to open up and get to those. But they are just detouring us through more open streets."

She says the roads have improved over the weekend and the key is taking your time.

Dave, who drives the 48 bus, covers a lot of ground during his route. "Starts off at 27th and Allegheny. Goes down 29th Street to Pennsylvania Ave. Down Market, down to Front and Market."

Dave's route is not diverted, but he says getting down some streets is a little tricky.

"There's some tight spots," he says. "People park too far out into the middle of the road. They're trying to avoid the ice."

He says the slight increase in temperature and a little sunshine are making a big difference.
