Atlantic City Police Officer Killed In Fla. Crash

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- An Atlantic City police officer has been killed in a car crash in Florida.

Deputy Police Chief Ernest Jubilee says Officer Michael Wamsher, an 11-year veteran of the department, died early Monday in a single-vehicle crash in Tampa.

Jubilee says the department is in shock, adding the officer was well-liked and well-respected.

The 34-year-old Wamsher lived in Egg Harbor Township, just outside Atlantic City.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the officer was traveling south on Interstate 275 when he lost control of the 2011 Nissan, swerved off the roadway onto a grassy embankment and overturned at 2:40 a.m.

A second occupant of the vehicle, 32-year-old Jason Pittaro of Brigantine, received what the highway patrol described as minor injuries.
