Student Chefs Compete For National Award At Philadelphia Restaurant School

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Local culinary students faced off at Philadelphia's Restaurant School, this week, for the preliminary round of a national student chef competition.

Eight students - two each from the four culinary schools in the mid-Atlantic - were put through their paces in the kitchen of the Restaurant school.

They created signature dishes for a panel of judges that included prominent local chefs like Matt Levin of Adsum.

The students were competing to get to the finals of the 9th annual "Almost Famous Chef" contest in Napa, California, where they'll compete against the other regional winners.

Emma Louth (photo in black) of Drexel University offered the judges a surf and turf of bison and smoked oysters, "I've been practicing this dish for a long time so I felt comfortable with it."

Louth must have been comfortable. She won the contest.
