Markell Says Delaware Stronger Than Its Challenges

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Gov. Jack Markell says Delaware's lawmakers and citizens need to work together to help the state overcome the challenges it faces.

In his State of the State address Thursday, Markell compared the recent snowstorms that have hit Delaware to the "economic blizzard" that it has had to weather for the past two years.

As with the snow, Markell says Delaware is digging itself out of its economic mess, but that more work needs to be done.
Markell says that work includes helping existing businesses grow while attracting new ones, improving Delaware's public schools, and making state government more efficient.

While not offering any specifics, Markell said his administration and Delaware lawmakers will have to look hard at health insurance and pension costs for state employees.
