Volt, Explorer Named Car & Truck Of The Year

DETROIT (CBS) - Bragging rights for Ford and General Motors.

The Ford Explorer has been named 2011 North American Truck of the Year. The announcement came Monday morning at the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Center in downtown Detroit.

This is the seventh time a Ford has been the "North American Truck of the Year." Last year the Ford Transit Connect was the winner.

The Chevy Volt has been named the 2011 North American Car of the Year.

This is the fourth time General Motors has won the North American Car of the Year. The Chevrolet Malibu was the 2008 North American Car of the Year.

Forty-nine automotive journalists select the winners.

The other finalists for Car of the Year were the Hyundai Sonata and Nissan Leaf.

The finalists for the 2011 North American Truck of the Year were the Dodge Durango and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
