Will The Flyers Skate At The Linc In 2012?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There's a buzz about hockey's outdoor Winter Classic possibly being held in Philadelphia next year.

It's becoming a New Year's Day tradition -- the NHL's outdoor spectacle, the Winter Classic.

Is there a chance the Flyers could be skating at Lincoln Financial Field on New Year's Day 2012?

A report on espn.com cites league sources calling Philadelphia the "front runner" to host the game next year.

Comcast-Spectacor president Peter Luukko says the NHL has not contacted the Flyers so far.

But he likes the idea.

"We would certainly like to see the game played in Philadelphia. It's a fantastic event. It's a great time for all. And we had such a good experience at Fenway Park and we know that Philadelphia would be just a fantastic host of the game."

Luukko says when the Flyers played in last year's winter classic in Boston, the team wasn't approached until June.
