Martelli's Hawks Prepare For Siena

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - St. Joe's will play its final game of the 2010 calendar year on New Year's Eve as they host Siena at Hagan Arena.

The Hawks snapped a six-game losing streak on Tuesday as they went on the road and beat Holy Cross 65-54. Head coach Phil Martelli says it was good to get the win.

Listen to Matt Leon's interview with Phil Martelli:

"We were getting better, we were improving, but we weren't getting the result," he said. "Now we have the result to kind of go forward and push ahead to the Siena game and then into the Atlantic 10 portion of our schedule."

The Hawks are now 4-8 after that Holy Cross victory. Siena is 4-7, but Martelli says that record is a bit deceiving.

"It's amazing watching their results and watching their tapes. They play an awful lot of close games," he said. "They have really taken on the challenge, they've played Georgia Tech from the ACC (a 62-57 win) they played Minnesota (a 76-69 loss), they've really put themselves out there in terms of difficult scheduling."

Hawks continue to be led in scoring by sophomore guard Carl Jones, he is pouring in 18 points a game.

Tip-off on Friday is set for 4:00pm.
