Police: Easton Infant Beaten To Death

EASTON, Pa. (AP) -- An eastern Pennsylvania man has been charged with beating his infant daughter to death in their Easton home.

Twenty-one-year-old Joseph Urquia was arraigned on a criminal homicide charge Tuesday, the same day that 11-week-old Joselynn was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. She had been taken there two days earlier with severe head injuries.

District Judge Gay Elwell sent Urquia to county prison without bail. A listed number for him could not be found Tuesday and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.

The (Allentown) Morning Call reports that he pleaded guilty to assaulting another daughter, who was 3 months old at the time. According to court records, Urquia was originally charged with felony aggravated assault but pleaded guilty to misdemeanor simple assault and was placed on probation for 18 months.
