Philly 911 Center Having Problems With Cell Calls

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Philadelphia police are trying to figure out what is causing problems with some incoming cell phone calls to the department's 911 call center.

The department says there have been sporadic problems in which dispatchers haven't been able to hear the voices of cell callers.

Police say the dispatchers in those cases have been immediately calling back the number listed on the caller ID to make sure the callers get the service they need.

But the department says Verizon, its telephone service provider, is working with cell phone carriers to solve the problem.
