Suspects Sought In Mercer County Gas Station Shooting

HAMILTON TWP., N.J. (CBS) – Hamilton Township Police are investigating a gas station shooting that left one employee injured Tuesday night.

Officials responded to a reported shooting around 6:24 p.m. at the Runway gas station on Greenwood Avenue near Trenton.

The gas station's surveillance system shows three males in jeans and hooded sweatshirts approach a gas attendant as a vehicle drove away from a gas pump. One of the males pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the abdomen. The victim appeared to be caught off guard and defenseless in the surveillance video. Authorities believe it was an attempted robbery gone wrong.

"Not sure if they panicked or if they were trying to find that he wasn't moving fast enough," said Capt. James Stevens of the Hamilton Twp. Police Department.

A nearby witness assisted the gas attendant after the three suspects fled on foot down Atlantic Avenue towards Walnut Avenue. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and underwent two surgeries.

Officials are asking that anyone with information contact the Hamilton Township Police Department's tip line at (609)581-4009.
