Komen Event Focuses On African American Women And Breast Cancer Awareness

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A huge outreach event aimed at African American women will be held next Saturday in the annual "Sisters for the Cure."

Elaine Grobman is executive director of the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which is holding the 7th annual "Sisters for the Cure" event on Saturday, December 11th.

"I really believe this is a win-win day for all women who attend," says Grobman.

The free event is focused on African American women, who have the highest death rate from breast cancer than any other racial or ethnic group. Grobman says those attending will get the latest breast health information and personalized treatment.

"Late diagnosis kills women, but early diagnosis saves lives," but Grobman points out, "98% of the women survive when breast cancer is found early and that's what this is all about."
