PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Merchants along Frankford and Girard Avenues in Fishtown will open their doors tonight for their inaugural "Holiday Walk."

The neighborhood is in the midst of a major makeover that includes streetscape improvements and a burgeoning arts community.

Now, the merchants want to show off their new look with tonight's holiday walk, which begins at the foot of Frankford Avenue, across from the SugarHouse Casino.

Erica Zito is one of the new arrivals along Frankford Avenue. She and her partner opened a coffee shop near Girard Avenue a few months ago.

"We'll all be offering different types of discounts, opportunities to try things out in different establishments, and special deals for the holidays," Zito told KYW Newsradio.

She says she likes the area.

"It's a good time to be here in Fishtown.  It's a great time, with new businesses opening up all the time, new buildings opening up all the time which are in great areas for people that are looking for a growing neighborhood to really start something from the beginning," she said.

"The point was to decorate the businesses, put out the whole holiday vibe, and really get people in the spirit as we're creeping closer to the holidays," Zito explained.
