Mysterious Death Of Hunter Investigated In Bucks Co.

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- Police are investigating the mysterious shooting death of a hunter whose body was found in a wooded area of Bucks County Monday afternoon.

The discovery was made at about 2 p.m. near the 1100 block of California Road in Richland Township.

Investigators say the unidentified man from Quakertown called his wife after he shot a deer and asked her to get their son to help him carry the animal.

When the victim's son arrived, the man had already been shot.

"He had captured his deer and was in the process of bringing it out of the woods. The death in nature is suspicious," Sgt. Richard Ficco of the Richland Township Police Department said.

When asked if the 52-year-old man was shot by another hunter, Ficco said: "We have no idea, the theories are still playing out."

The hunter was wearing camouflage and his orange hunting vest was next to his body. His shotgun was found 15 feet away from him up against a tree.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. The mysterious discovery remains under investigation.
