DNA Links Kensington Strangulations To Single Suspect

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police have new information regarding a series of Kensington sexual assaults and strangulation murders that occurred this month.

Elaine Goldberg, 21, was found dead on November 3 in a vacant lot, and Nicole Piacentini, 35, was found dead in an abandoned property on November 16.

The similarity of the two murders -- both sexual assaults and strangulations -- prompted police to wonder if they were done by the same person.

After sending DNA from the scene to the police crime lab, Philadelphia police Captain James Clark now confirms they are looking for one killer. However, it's unclear right now whether that man is responsible for other crimes.

"We're looking at any attacks in that area. We're looking at attacks city-wide. We're also going to reach out to some of the federal agencies and take a look outside of the city if there are any similarities in any attacks," Clark said.

Clark says usually with crimes like these, there are witnesses.

"We're continually asking for the public's help. If anyone has any information about either one of these murders to please contact the homicide unit at 215-686-3334 or 3335."
