22 Years Of 'Joy Of Sharing'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Join CBS 3, The CW Philly 57 and WPHT, for the stations' 22nd annual Joy of Sharing toy campaign benefiting the Salvation Army. As part of the growing holiday spirit, Eyewitness News Anchors Chris May and Susan Barnett will be requesting new, unwrapped toys for local children through public service announcements airing on the two stations.
The Joy of Sharing campaign kicks off this Friday, November 26 as The CW Crew, Kharisma McIlwaine, Jazmyn Engelhardt and Everett Jackson, appear at the Blue Cross River Rink at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia from 12 noon to 4 p.m. to officially launch the toy drive by setting up collection bins. The River Rink will be giving $2 off admission to anyone who drops off a toy throughout the duration of the campaign.
The stations will also hold their second annual Joy of Sharing phone bank on Monday, December 20, 3 to 8 p.m. to collect both toys and funds for families in need in our region. The Joy of Sharing campaign runs through Tuesday, December 21st.
Other toy collection events this season include the Rittenhouse Square Tree Lighting Ceremony in Philadelphia where Meteorologist Kathy Orr will appear Tuesday, November 30 (tree lighting at 5 p.m.). In addition, the Philadelphia Flyers will support the campaign by hosting a Joy of Sharing Night and collecting toys at the Tuesday, December 14 game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7 p.m. Traffic Reporter Bob Kelly will urge those stopping by his Holiday Lights neighborhood tours to bring along a toy.
CBS Radio's The Big Talker 1210AM WPHT joins sister stations CBS 3 and The CW Philly 57 in support of the campaign this year.
The tradition will allow the Salvation Army to provide toys for more than 50,000 children newborn to age 18 who might otherwise not have a gift to open on Christmas morning.
