WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) — A tractor trailer driver was trapped in the cab of his truck for an hour Thursday following a crash on I-495 in New Castle County, Delaware. The accident closed the northbound lanes causing major delays for commuters.

Authorities say the accident happened at about 1:10 p.m. in the northbound lanes near Edgemoor Road in Wilmington.

The driver of the tractor trailer became trapped in the semi when his truck went off the roadway. It took firefighters approximately an hour to free him from the wreckage. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment; his condition was not immediately available.

As of 2:30 p.m. authorities said all lnorthbound lanes remained closed and driver were urged to find alternate routes.
