PhilaU Basketball Closing In On Coaching Milestone

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Another milestone number for Division II Philadelphia University basketball is on tap, but this time Herb Magee's success is only half the story.

With one more victory, the Philadelphia University coaching duo of Magee and women's coach Tom Shirley will hit 1500 as a pair. Only Jim Calhoun and Geno Auriemma at Connecticut have a higher total as an active coaching tandem.

Magee is responsible for 907 of the victories, but he takes talk of numbers in stride:

"Certainly they mean something, but they aren't a big deal to me. What's a big deal to me is tomorrow's practice is going to start and we got a game coming up. And that's the only thing I ever concern myself with."

Shirley calls it a neat milestone:

"I was kidding with Herb the other day, I feel like I'm on a 52 passenger bus and he's driving and I'm in the backseat. But I'm happy to have a seat on the bus. It's a great honor to be mentioned with those people and certainly thanks to Herb for giving us 1500 wins."

Shirley's resume on the women's side is nothing to scoff at as he sits at 592 career wins.

Magee's men's squad goes for the historic 1500th win Tuesday night against St. Thomas Aquinas.
