Local Student Killed In Florida Plane Crash

BROOMALL, Pa. (CBS) -- Jordyn Agostini always dreamed of flying jumbo jets. The 21-year-old from Broomall was on her way, learning to fly in Florida. But on Thursday night, her dream came to an end.

Authorities say Agostini was flying out of West Palm Beach International Airport in a Piper Seminole, when the twin engine airplane crashed right after takeoff with four people on board. Fire destroyed everything but the tail.

Three people died in the crash. One more died in the hospital. CBS 3 has learned Agostini's boyfriend and his brother were on board as well.

Agostini graduated from Marple-Newtown High School in 2007 and pursued a career in aviation at the Florida Institute of Technology.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Agostini family", said Dr. Ray McFall, Marple Newtown High School Principal. "We are providing grief counseling to our students and faculty to help deal with the sudden loss of such a bright and accomplished young woman."

According to the FAA's airman certification information, Agostini is a pilot of single- and multi-engine airplanes.

"We can only assume the student was flying the airplane with the instructor up front in the other seat," said Winston Scott, Florida Institute of Technology dean. "That's typically how it's done."

Investigators say the plane had just flown in to West Palm Beach from the Bahamas. It had just taken off for Melbourne, Florida when it crashed. The school said it was a routine training flight.

The NTSB began their investigation Friday morning. The preliminary investigation will take a few weeks. The final results of the investigation will take months.
