Weekend Box Office: 'Megamind' Takes First

(CBS) - Megamind won the hearts and minds of moviegoers over the weekend.

The animated comedy featuring the voices of Will Ferrell and Tina Fey earned an estimated $47-million on its debut weekend, which easily outdistanced the competition.

The new odd-couple comedy, Due Date, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis, placed second with a healthy $33-million.

Third place went to the weekend's third new release Tyler Perry's drama, For Colored Girls, with an ensemble cast that includes Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, and Thandie Newton.  It took in $20-million.

No other title broke the $10-million mark. However, with the top three titles combining for over $100-million, it was a decidedly strong weekend for the industry.
