Old City District Plants 70 Trees In The Neighborhood

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A tree planting ceremony was held Friday afternoon in front of the Arch Street Meeting House.

Graham Copeland, Executive Director of the Old City District:

"We're planting 70 trees to help the streetscape improvement work that we're doing here as part of our overall project of the beautification of Old City."

He says the weather, including droughts, cause trees to die. Motorists also accidentally back into them:

"This year past was especially bad for the street trees and so we're replacing trees where there once were thriving trees and throughout the district there were all these empty tree pits where trees once were."

The trees were planted throughout a 22-block area of the district.
