Abington Mom Goes To Jail For Hosting Underage Kegger

ABINGTON, Pa. (CBS) -- A Montgomery County mother is headed to jail for hosting a beer party for her 15-year-old son and more than three dozen of his friends at their Abington home last year.

A has judge found Kathleen Tompkins guilty of child endangerment and related charges and immediately sentenced the 46-year-old woman to one to 23 months behind bars.  She'll be serving the time on weekends: a minimum of ten, three-day segments.

Tompkins claimed she didn't know the kids were drinking beer in her Woodcrest Road home in February 2009, but some of the students who were there testified otherwise.

Montgomery County prosecutor Tony Gil says the jail sentence was warranted in this case:

"The court in this case handed down a sentence that sends a message to people in the community that these types of parties are not to be tolerated because they can be dangerous."

Police found one teen stumbling in the street; another had to be taken to the hospital.

Tompkins' boyfriend at the time, Daniel McIntyre, is also behind bars in connection with this case and an unrelated charge.
