Officials Warn Drivers: Watch Out For Deer Crossing The Road

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Deer have been very active in the region over the past few weeks and will continue to be until about mid-December. A Pennsylvania game commission official says motorists really need to exercise caution, especially in the suburban counties.

Cheryl Trewella, of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, says it's the height of the deer mating season and archers and small-game hunters also are moving the deer out of the woods:

"Really pay attention along the side of the road. Watch for deer's eyes and things like that. If you see one deer that crosses, don't assume that they're aren't anymore. Keep an eye out for others."

Trewella says there is a window when deer activity is highest:

"The times that are most dangerous would be towards dusk until dawn because they travel a lot more at night so you just want to be extra-vigilant."
