Police Ask For Public's Help In Solving 1975 Deptford Murder

DEPTFORD, NJ (CBS) -- After 35 years, Gloucester County investigators say they are making progress in their efforts to crack the oldest unsolved murder case in county history.

It was October 30, 1975 when 17-year-old Patrick O'Neill was viciously gunned down by burglars he interrupted when he returned from his high school class to do chores at his family's home.

Gloucester County detective Bill Perna and a team of investigators from the county's Major Crimes Unit believe they have uncovered important new evidence.

But the investigators say despite hours of work and new technology, they need help from the public to crack the case.

If you think you can help, please call the 24-hour tip line at 856-307-7180 or send a confidential email to: mcu@co.gloucester.nj.us.
