Gloucester Co. Police Asking For High-Tech Tips

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ -- The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office wants tipsters to report crime information by texting it to them.

Detective Bryn Wilden says if you text GLOTIP plus the message to "CRIMES" -- that's 274637 -- an investigator will get the information in seconds, without knowing who sent it.

"What happens, and we can guarantee that it's 100-pecent anonymous, is it goes through two secure servers. And the information contained in those servers is encrypted. And every tipster is provided a four-digit alias code."

Tipsters can even anonymously text photos to detectives.

County Prosecutor Sean Dalton says the tip line is being publicized at schools, since young people are most comfortable with texting.

It's just a coincidence the tip line is being announced on the three-year anniversary of the murder of Rowan student Donnie Farrell. But Dalton says his office would welcome any tips that can prevent a crime or help solve one from the past.
